Bathroom Remodel Costs in Louisville, Lafayette & Boulder (2026)

October 31, 2026
Modern bathroom with a tiled walk-in shower and floating vanity

A typical hall bathroom remodel in Boulder County costs $15,000 to $30,000. A quick cosmetic refresh can be done for $5,000 to $15,000, and a primary bath with a walk-in tile shower usually starts around $35,000. The biggest swing in price comes from one question: are the toilet, shower and sink staying where they are?

We're Contreras Builds, a residential general contractor based in Louisville. Here's what bathroom remodels cost in 2026 and how to plan yours.

Bathroom remodel costs by project level (2026 planning ranges):

Cosmetic refresh, $5,000 to $15,000: new vanity, fixtures, lighting, mirror and paint. The tub or shower stays.

Mid-range remodel, $15,000 to $30,000: full tear-out, new tile, tub-to-shower conversion or new tub, vanity, toilet and fan.

High-end or primary bath, $35,000 to $60,000: walk-in tile shower, double vanity, heated floors and layout changes.

Luxury primary suite, $60,000 to $120,000+: a bigger footprint, custom glass, freestanding tub and premium stone.

These ranges follow 2026 national tiers from Block Renovation. Angi lists a full Denver-area bathroom remodel at $25,000 to $80,000. Labor is often 50% to 65% of a mid-range bath, so the size of the room and the amount of tile matter as much as the fixtures you pick.

The most popular upgrade, tub-to-shower conversion: many Boulder County homes built from the 1960s to the 1990s have a tub-and-shower combo that nobody uses as a tub. Swapping it for a tiled walk-in shower is one of the most requested bath projects we see. It usually fits in the mid-range tier when the drain stays in place.

What pushes the price up: (1) Moving plumbing. Relocating a toilet or shower drain, especially on a concrete slab, adds the most cost. (2) Tile. Large-format, patterned or floor-to-ceiling tile takes more labor. (3) Curbless and walk-in showers. They need careful waterproofing and floor slope, done right the first time. (4) Hidden damage. Water damage or rot found during demolition is common in older bathrooms, so budget for it.

Do bathroom remodels need a permit? If you're replacing plumbing, electrical, the fan or walls, plan on a permit. Fees are usually based on project value and vary by city. A licensed contractor should pull it and include it in the price. Ask before you sign.

How long does it take? Most bathroom remodels take 2 to 4 weeks of construction, plus 1 to 3 weeks for design and choices and any permit review before work starts.

3 ways to save on a bathroom remodel: keep the layout, since a same-layout bath often costs thousands less and finishes faster; splurge on what you touch, putting money into the shower valve, vanity top and faucet and saving on accent pieces; and choose tile early, because special-order tile can hold up a crew.
